Change in vote probabilities for a moderately religious conservative party
In this paper, we (i.e. Ruth Dassonneville, Kamil Marcinkiewicz, and myself) examine wether secularisation has lead to a decrease or increase in voting differences between religious and non-religious voters and whether Catholic/Protestant differences have weakened as often expected on the base of the sularisation and cleavage decline literature. We find that voting differences along these lines are still present in the 20th century and seem to even have increased. We also find that non-Christians are more similar in their voting behaviour than citizes without a religious affiliation.
